When thinking of Niigata, many people imagine a very snowy place, but actually Niigata City experiences very little snow, and the winter temperatures are comparable to suburbs of Tokyo. While the areas along the Sea of Japan do experience large amounts or precipitation during the winter, it is not uncommon to have clear days even when the weather was forecasted for a whole day of snow. With the exception of February 5th, 2010 when 81cm of snow fell, the amount of fallen snow has not exceeded 1 meter since 1961. Contrary to its snowy image, Niigata City does not experience much snowfall, and even 50cm can cause traffic to common to a stop. As this is the case, the common snow area expenses of Road Heating or snow clearing fees are not to be found in Niigata City.
The center of Niigata City is composed of Chuo Ward which contains both banks
of the Shinano River, and is home to Niigata Station and Bandai Bridge to the
south which makes it a very popular area for those renting their homes. Recently,
the Bandai area, located on the right bank of the Shinano river, has become especially
popular for renters. Rental demand for 1R~1DK style rooms is roughly 40%
1LDK~2DK roughly 30%、and the 2LDK~4DK family types are roughly 20%. Niigata is
a “Driving Culture” so properties a bit far from a train station can still be popular as
long as parking is available.
